At The Mount Sinai School, we strongly believe that great teachers build great students. Recently, our dedicated teachers had the wonderful opportunity to attend a professional Teachers’ Training Workshop on Effective Teaching Methodologies and Classroom Management, organized by Oxford University Press (OUP) in Islamabad.

The training session focused on modern teaching strategies and how they can be integrated into daily classroom practices. From creative lesson planning to effective classroom management techniques, our educators explored innovative ways to make learning more engaging, student-centered, and result-oriented.

Why Teacher Training Matters

Continuous learning is not just important for students it is equally vital for teachers. At Mount Sinai, we encourage our educators to grow professionally so they can:

  • Inspire curiosity and creativity in students
  • Use interactive and hands-on teaching methods
  • Manage classrooms effectively for a positive environment
  • Bring new perspectives into everyday learning
  • Strengthen student engagement through innovative approaches

Activities Taught by Mentor

During the training, mentors also demonstrated simple, fun, and effective classroom activities that support both learning and development. One such example was the Balloon-Blowing Activity, which offers multiple benefits for children:

  • Strengthens lungs and breathing – improves lung capacity and control
  • Supports oral motor development – strengthens lips, mouth, and facial muscles for clear speech
  • Builds focus and concentration – children learn patience and control
  • Enhances fine & gross motor skills – stretching and tying balloons engages hand muscles
  • Encourages self-regulation – controlled breathing calms the body and mind
  • Boosts confidence – successfully inflating a balloon gives a sense of achievement

This activity is not only playful but also highly educational, making it a wonderful tool for Montessori and preschool classrooms.

Building 5 Essential Skills (5 Es)

At Mount Sinai, our teaching practices focus on nurturing the 5 Es of learning, helping every child grow holistically:

  1. Engage – capturing students’ interest through fun and meaningful activities
  2. Explore – encouraging curiosity and hands-on discovery
  3. Explain – guiding students to understand and express their knowledge clearly
  4. Elaborate – connecting new learning with real-life examples
  5. Evaluate – reflecting on progress and celebrating achievements

These 5 Es directly strengthen academic development while also enhancing reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical thinking skills.

Strengthening Core Skills

Through workshops like these, our teachers gain better strategies to improve:

  • Reading Skills – building comprehension, vocabulary, and a love for books
  • Writing Skills – encouraging expression, creativity, and clarity
  • Speaking Skills – improving confidence and communication
  • Listening Skills – fostering attention and understanding
  • Critical Thinking – helping students analyze, question, and innovate

Our Commitment to Excellence

We are proud that our teachers came back with fresh ideas and renewed energy to apply in the classroom. This workshop is part of our ongoing mission to ensure that Mount Sinai students receive the best quality education in a nurturing and dynamic environment.
